What is Networking and Systems Administration?
Day in the Life of Networking and Systems Administrator
- Connect with team on rollout of new networks with a brainstorm on potential problems/solutions
- Spend time administering the cloud system and updating permissions and service deployments
- Take a lunch break!
- Partner with team to communicate effective utilization of new systems
- Re-establish a broken connection to and from various cloud network types
- Add to-do list for tomorrow – manage firewalls request for new Senior VP
What You Will Learn
- Set up cloud computing environment, virtual machines, network infrastructures and cloud services including Azure
- Get experience monitoring, troubleshooting, and managing network and cloud services/issues
- Manage directory services, conduct system performance backups and recovery
- Discover scripting language and trend analysis
- Implement automation, virtualization, identity access, security components, data analytics with A.I. tools
- Opportunity to earn multiple certifications like CompTIA Linux+ and CompTIA Net+, AZ 900, AI 900

Who can enroll?
- Applicants must reside in Newark, New Jersey, the New York City Metro Area, or within a 2 hour driving distance from those locations
- Individuals aged 18-26 with a high school diploma or equivalent, or military veterans and spouses over 21 (honorably discharged or serving in the guard/reserves).
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- First-time NPower student
- As this is an accelerated program, candidates need experience using computers: browsing the internet, downloading and uploading files; familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, and a basic understanding of computer hardware and software components. Having exposure to using operating systems and obtaining entry level tech certifications like CompTIA A+/IT Fundamentals or Google IT Certificates are helpful foundations for this program.
**Graduates from NPower or alternate tech training programs are not eligible for this program at this time.
This virtual training program offers a flexible mix of learning styles to fit your life:
– Live, instructor-led online classes held Monday through Thursday evening from 6pm – 10pm ET.
– Self-paced lessons and assignments you complete on your own schedule
– No class on Fridays, giving you time to catch up, review, or recharge

Computer Networking

You will develop of deep understanding on how to design, implement, administrate, and support computer networks, including:
- Understand how computers communicate with each other on a network and configure network protocols
- Manage network segmentation and set up safe zones to keep data secure
- Monitor network traffic in real time
- Deploy network services that help computers locate each other (like DHCP, DNS, and Network Monitoring)
- Troubleshoot network issues and find appropriate solutions
- Implement automation and A.I. tools to automate tasks and build virtual networks
Potential job roles with these skills are: Network Administrator, Desktop Support Services Technicians, and Computer Network Analysts
Linux Systems Admin
You will develop an understanding of basic Linux client and server methodologies and troubleshooting, including:
- Learn how to manage system users and what they can do
- Organize and control how information is stored and accessed in directories
- Monitor programs running in the background
- Conduct system performance backups and check how well a system is performing
- Set up rules to protect the system and keep it secure
- Integrate smart tools and A.I. to automate tasks and create virtual systems
Potential job roles with these skills are: Systems Admins and Server Administrators
Understanding AI
*Opportunity to earn a Cloud Computing Microsoft Azure Fundamentals certification*
You will develop an understanding of the basics or Artificial Intelligence (A.I.), Azure’s A.I, including:
Learn how A.I. is used in real-world tasks and workloads
Understand how to use A.I. in a fair, safe, and responsible way
Get the basics of how machines learn from data
Use Microsoft Azure tools to build A.I. projects
Create A.I. that understands and works with human language (NLP)
Build A.I. that can “see” and understand images or videos (Computer Vision)
Potential job roles with these skills are: IT Support Analysts and Entry-level Data Analysts
Additional Specializations (Optional) in as Little as 6 Weeks. Choose One of the Following:
- Data Analytics
- Python Automation
- Pentest Security
- Healthcare IT
Pro Tip: Ensure to schedule in time for studying outside of the coursework hours!
FAQs
Our programs are 100% no cost to all selected participants through the kind generosity of private donors, foundations, corporations, and government funding. If selected for the program, we do ask that participants come prepared and committed to putting in the required time and effort necessary to succeed and trust the process. Once you find employment, you are not expected to make any financial contributions or payments to NPower and will graduate from the program with no debt.
Applications are open for the next class which starts in August. The program is 20 weeks with up to 6 weeks for additional specializations.
At this time, participants must be located in (or within 2 – 3 hours driving distance) of Newark, NJ/ New York City Metro Area
