Veterans Initiative Summit

Recap from the Veterans Initiative Summit | October 7-8, 2019

NPower Executive Directors, Chris Starling from California, Russ Medina from Texas, and Bea Tassot from New Jersey attended the 12th Veterans Initiative Summit in Washington, D.C. Organized by the Blackstone and Carlyle groups, this yearly convening gathers employers, trainers, and government officials working on veterans and veterans’ spouses employment.

This year’s themes focused on military spouse employment, military sourcing, transition and integration support, and community partnership. Breakout sessions featured interactive workshops with key experts from the DoD (Department of Defense) SkillBridge initiative and the U.S. Department of Labor Cybersecurity Apprenticeship programs. The White House hosted a special meeting with Jennifer Korn, Deputy Director and Special Assistant to the President and Kellyanne Conway, Counselor to the President to share updates on the state of Veteran Affairs. Following the summit, a wreath laying ceremony was held at the Arlington National Cemetery.
